Told By | Title | Family Story | Kathy Dever | Samuel Bruske | Nana's grandfather, Samuel Bruske, was a cigar maker. He came here from Holland in 1875. His wife was Deborah Plotsky from New York. | Kathy Dever | Nat Bruske's name change |
Nana's father (Nathan Bruske) was in the entertainment business (minstrel shows) and he didn't like using the Jewish name. So he had his name legally changed to Nathan Prescott from Nathan Bruske.
That's the story I was told.
So, Nana's brother would use his Frank Prescott name, but, for some reason, I remember seeing all his mail (we lived in the same house, different apartments in Dorchester) addressed to Samuel Bruske. >Nana never changed her name, because she knew she would marry or maybe she was already married when the family had their name legally changed By the way, her father worked for City Hall. That was his day job. He was a chauffeur for Mayor Curly.A very colorful Mayor....very popular. |
